The field of sleep medicine crosses the boundaries of a number of medical specialties and disciplines. We maintain a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating sleep disorders. This strategy is key to successful treatment and improved patient care. Our team of physicians include the following specialists:

Dr. Fariborz Ashtyani – Director of Hackensack Sleep and Pulmonary Center – Director of Hackensack Sleep Center Partners and Director of the Center of Excellence in Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation Therapy in New Jersey. He has been in practice for over 27 years after training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

He is an active member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine”, the “American College of Chest Physicians”, and the Hackensack University Medical Center/John Theurer Cancer Center, as well as Hackensack Sleep Wake Institute.

Dr. Ashtyani has special expertise and training in the activation, programming and medical management of Upper Airway Stimulation / Inspire devices.

Dr. Ashtyani is an expert in Sleep Medicine, he also has specialized in interventional sleep therapies since 2017. He has the most experience in activation, programing, and medical management of Upper Airway Stimulation in the Tri-State area. In 2020, he received international recognition as the Director of a Center for Excellence in hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy.

As a health educator and clinical researcher, he has focused his research on interventional sleep and pulmonary techniques and rigid bronchoscopy. He has been an investigator in device studies, quality of care, disease management, and the application of general physiology to unique patient situations. Dr. Ashtyani has led numerous community informational events to stress the importance of diagnosing, evaluating, and treating sleep disorders.

Dr Deborah Goss

Dr. Deborah A. Goss (Hutter) – Associate Director is a board-certified Sleep and Pulmonary Physician. She graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers) and Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She specializes in Sleep, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Goss is an active member of Hackensack University Medical Center’s John Theurer Cancer Center, the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Sleep-Wake Institute and was voted Top Doctor by 201 Health Magazine.

Grant Simons, MD, FACC, FHRS – Chief, Heart Rhythm Services, Hackensack University Medical Center.

Dr. Grant Simons is a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist with offices in Hackensack NJ. With 30 years of experience, he specializes in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Dr. Simons, a Harvard graduate, has been consistently recognized as a “Top Doctor” in multiple publications over the years and has been invited to speak at lectures across the New Jersey tri-state area on the topics of atrial fibrillation and other heart rhythm conditions. He has been published extensively in his field and is a member of several professional societies and committees.

Senja Tomovic, MD is board certified by the Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

She received her Undergraduate Degree in Biology at the University of Chicago and her M.D. at Wayne State University School of Medicine Dr. Tomovic completed her residency in Head and Neck Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

Dr. Tomovic has specialized training and expertise in the implantation of the Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation System.

Dr. Daniel Samadi is the Pediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeon for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Samadi offers skilled support and care for children with conditions affecting the ears, nose and throat, as well as disorders involving the head and neck. Along with diagnosing and treating children with ear infections (otitis) and sore throats (pharyngitis), he also assists children with hearing loss and speech disorders, airway difficulties and chronic sinus problems, tumors of the head and neck and congenital malformations.

Dr. Samadi graduated summa cum laude in Biochemistry from New York University. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with high honors, Dr. Samadi completed his otolaryngology residency at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He has received multiple national awards for his clinical and basic science research involving angiogenic growth factors in a rabbit model, including the distinguished recognition from the American Broncho-Esophagological Association in 2001. Dr. Samadi is board-certified in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery with sub-specialty training in Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery.

Masayuki Inouye, MD is a board-certified otolaryngologist specializing in sinus surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, as well as all other types of head and neck surgery. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and an Attending Physician at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Dr. Inouye received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, where he made the National Dean’s List and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Stanford University. Dr. Inouye also has research interests in otology, and was awarded the Merck Book Award.

Dr. Brian Benson is a board-certified otolaryngologist. He graduated form Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2003 and completed his internship in 2004 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. He completed his residency also at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in 2008. Dr. Benson then completed his fellowship at Saint Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City in 2009.

Dr.Benson specializes in larynx repair, Co2 Laser Surgery, Laryngoscopy, endoscopic and laser microsurgery, endoscopic Zenker’s Diverticulum surgery, removal of foreign bodies, and neck mass excision. He commonly treats patients with conditions such as sinusitis. Dr. Benson also provides Botox, Captique, Collagen, Hylaform, and Restylane injections.

Dr. Sanjeev Patel graduated from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in 1993 where he completed his residency in internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. During his residency and fellowship he served as an administrative chief resident and chief fellow. After completion of his training he served as faculty member at UMDNJ in the Department of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology serving as Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Patel is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He is an active member of the teaching faculty of UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and was voted Top Doctor by NJ Monthly Magazine.

Dr. Georges Ghacibeh is an Epileptologist and the Director of Behavioral Health at Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group. He is a neurologist with special training and interest in seizures, Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Ghacibeh completed his Neurology residency at New York University followed by a two year fellowship in Behavioral Neurology, Epilepsy and Sleep Study Medicine at the University of Florida. He is board certified in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Ghacibeh specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with cognitive difficulties related to seizures and seizure activity that occurs during sleep. He was named one of The Best Doctors in America 2009-2010 and again in 2010-2011.

Dr. Anjana Chhabra is an expert in the field of weight reduction. She is Board Certified in Bariatric Medicine and Internal Medicine and has helped numerous patients achieve their weight loss goals in the New York and New Jersey area. She has committed herself to helping people change their lives and their health through weight loss. The numerous programs for weight loss created by Dr. Chhabra are individualized for each of her patients. Her programs include intensive dietary and nutrition counseling, behavioral counseling, safe and effective weight loss medications when needed, and commitment to a physical exercise program.

Dr. Chhabra supervises the progress of her patients so that they lose weight safely and are able to make permanent lifestyle changes to improve their health.

Kevin M. Heaney, D.D.S., M.P.H  is Board Certified in Dental Sleep Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Dental Sleep Disorders Association.

He attended Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in New York City, and completed his Dental and Anesthesiology residencies at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Heaney specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients in need of General Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Sokolina is passionate in her treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring with oral appliance therapy, and is committed to increasing her skill level and knowledge base in the constantly expanding field of sleep medicine dentistry. After graduating from NYU Dental School in 1998 with the Periodontic Honor Award, she completed postgraduate training at Newark’s Beth Israel Medical Center, which is considered one of the nation’s best general practice residency programs. She has since completed hundreds of hours of continuing education including Dawson Academy, USDI institute or Orthodontic Training and Tufts’s University for sleep apnea courses. Dr. Sokolina recently became Diplomate of American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM).
Dr. Sokolina’s goal is to remain on the cutting edge of new development in sleep medicine dentistry that could make procedures more effective and further improve the quality of life of her patients.

Dr. Warren Boardman

Warren Boardman, DMD, DABDSM  is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and holds a Facility Accreditation by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He specializes in the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea through Oral Appliance Therapy.

Dr. Boardman utilizes many different types of Oral Appliances that may be used alone or in combination with other therapies such as CPAP, Provent or Surgery. Dr. Boardman is a graduate from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a Master from the Academy of General Dentistry.
